Heritage and Milestones
KHI is proud of its heritage as a family business. In 1947, Y.C. Fu established the Kwong Hing Investment (KHI) Company alongside its sister company, the Tak Kee Shipping & Trading Company, in Hong Kong. The process of diversification began when the company identified a plot of land in Hong Kong’s Central District on which it built Fu House in 1952. The family’s defining principles of conservatively managed growth and diversification came to characterise the company, and the current Chief Executive, Adrian Fu, has continued to steer KHI’s growth in line with these core values.
KHI’s flagship property development was the construction and management of the Furama Hotel on Hong Kong’s Central harbourfront (No. 1 Connaught Road Central). Opened in 1973, the Furama was a 500-room, 5-star hotel that set standards for business hotels in Asia. The hotel portfolio expanded from 1989 onwards with further openings in Hong Kong, China and Vietnam. KHI made a successful exit from its investment following the acquisition and subsequent delisting of the hotels’ holding company, Furama Hotel Enterprises, in 1997.
Whilst still deeply rooted in property, KHI’s portfolio interests have since then expanded in both geography and breadth to include financial assets and other direct holdings.
